Union Baptist Church is a bible-centered church that embraces the idea that Discipleship Development is our primary purpose. 

We believe that the relevancy of the Word of God is not time sensitive. Hence, the WORD will always be relevant as will it always be true and without error.  Yet, we believe that the presentation of the word (methodology of delivery) can and should be inclusive of the culture and age that we minister to and we believe that this can be done without compromising truth! 

Today, the Union Baptist Congregation, at over 500 members strong and growing, still stands as one of the major pillars in our community. We are proud to be a “Purpose Driven Church”.

  What We Offer

The Mission Statement of Union Baptist Church sets parameters for our services:

“The Mission of The Union Baptist Church of New Castle County, Incorporated is to win disciples through preaching and teaching an organized Christian Doctrine while demonstrating a social concern for the community through programs, outreach, and other spiritual activities.

The Church offers community outreach through various outreach services. For a more complete listing of our ministries, please check out our ministries page.

• Out of an evaluated need within the community The Union Baptist Church gave birth to the Union Baptist Church Community Center - now known as the O.A. Herring Community Center (renamed in honor of former pastor, Dr. Otis A. Herring) to offers a variety of services to include employment training, drug counseling, and utilities assistance in the North East Wilmington Area.
• The Union Baptist Day Care Center (now known as the Mary E. Herring Day Care Center) is another ministry birth out of  Union Baptist Church to offer quality Day-Care that incorporates child care, preschool training,  and basic biblical instruction for children 6 months to kindergarten.
• The Union Baptist Church currently offers quality pre-marital enrichment counseling as an extension of its Family Foundations Ministries.  Though it is targeted to impact the 19802 zip code area, it is also available for potential couples outside of this target zone. (With current issues ever arising around civil unions and same sex marriages, it is essential that the belief and policy of this church to be biblio-centric and bible based.  As we exist to represent such a standard, we limit this ministry to potential marriages that are consistent to the family model of a man and a woman. )
• The Union Baptist Community Corporation of Union Baptist Church oversee the two High-rise apartment facilities (King Plaza and Herring Manor) for the housing of the disabled and the elderly.

These are just some of the ministries that we offer as we shall continue to strive to be relevant to the physical needs while simultaneously and primarily meeting the spiritual needs of our church and community.z
